I picked up this story from a reporter who went on vacation, and I covered the last two days of a trial the community was following with a lot of interest. For this story, I interviewed the accused’s wife, who had so far not talked to the press. doc

An example of a breaking news story. I currently work as an editor, but one night a writer was needed so I switched hats. This story is about a lawsuit filed against Missouri’s governor. Initially published online and in the paper the next day, my story was the first in the state. AP and competing newspapers picked it up later. doc

Suspicious fire controlled after five-hour fight

Your usual fire report after a few suspicious fires occurred over several days in the Santa Cruz area. On a dry summer in California, fire stories are always something to keep an eye on.
